LeBron James Makes History (Again)

King James and his son Bronny are making history, not only the only father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously— but also on the same team. The rumors were wild, and the possibilities were plenty. So many things had to line up with the NBA Draft, contracts, team leadership, and more, but it was no surprise when Lebron James re-signed with the Lakers, his 3rd team, and his son signed his first deal with his first team, the Lakers.

Any basketball fan knows that LeBron has had an impressive career thus far, earning him the title of King James. His achievements last year winning the inaugural NBA Cup with the Lakers, and surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as leading scorer in league history, show us he doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all. So far, James has won four NBA championships from 10 NBA Finals appearances, including eight consecutive appearances in 2011 and 2018. He also won the inaugural NBA Cup in 2023 with the Lakers and three Olympic gold medals as a member of the U.S. men’s national team.

King James Legacy

James started out as the first overall pick of the draft in 2003, getting picked up by the Cavaliers. In 2004 he was named the Rookie of the Year and quickly set himself apart within the league. He is credited with leading the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2007 and won the NBA MVP in 2009 and 2010. Leaving Cleveland for the Miami Heat in 2010, James made the switch as a free agent, announced on a televised special called The Decision.

It was with the Heat that James won his first two NBA championships in 2012 and 2013 alongside the league’s MVP and Finals MVP awards. He returned to the Cavaliers after four seasons, helping them secure a win over Golden State in 2016. Then in 2018 James left the Cavaliers a second time, this time signing with the Lakers. The Lakers took the 2020 NBA Championship and James earned his fourth Finals MVP recognition. Now James has signed to remain with the Lakers and has the opportunity to continue setting records and making history alongside his son.

The expectations for Bronny are low, as they should be. Other than being the son of the greatest basketball player to ever walk the earth (yeah, I said it), Bronny had a less-than-spectacular college resume, not to mention collapsing on the court only a year ago, suffering cardiac arrest.

We can only imagine the pressure he must face with such unrealistic expectations from simply being the son of the GOAT. Still, Bronny seems to say all the right things at the podium, and his emotional intelligence appears high.

Don’t forget, Bronny has options. He’s the oldest child of not just the GOAT but also a billionaire and could be doing many other things. Now that he’s signed the 4-year deal for 7.9M, this is just the beginning of his own legacy. We hope for the best, we want the storylines, and we can’t wait to see how this develops. Can he become the sharpshooter the Lakers need?

Lakers Pageantry?

Fans also speculate whether he can even get any playing time? At least at some point, just for the sake of history, they will put Lebron and his son Bronny on the floor at the same time this year. The question is, will it happen over time in more of an earn-it fashion or a Lakers pageantry kind of way?

James Generations

Did you know another Lebron James son is playing high school ball just a few years behind Bronny? Will he be NBA-bound as well? No matter how the younger son develops on the court, for now fans have plenty to keep them intrigued with LeBron and Bronny suiting up in the purple and gold together. Adding a ‘teammate’ dimension to the father-son relationship as the two generations of James men will be play together in coming years will allow fans more insight into the life of this basketball star.

A surprising number of people don’t know that LeBron James grew up without a father, had no college education, and had very few role models except his single mother, Gloria. When he came into his own and showed his level of skill, the NBA organization handed this young, dirt-poor black kid $420,000 per week at the age of 18 to play basketball and become the face of the $75 billion NBA!

He also married his high school sweetheart, Savannah, and has a clean record. There have been no headlines or coverup stories of LeBron being arrested, caught using drugs, or even humiliating his wife publicly with side chick stories.

Never even so much as a parking ticket for the news to report, LeBron James shows time and time again how he is a dedicated father that is heavily involved with his three kid’s activities. We can see that he’s a consistent role model, and that may make his fans love him even more. Greatest player of all time!

Basketball Royalty

Since he started his career 20 years ago, he has been a billionaire, earning over $2 million per week, and he has made an impact in his hometown community by sending over 2300+ at-risk kids to college.

This could be some of the best and most fun storylines of the years to come! Love them or hate them, the James family is redefining what it means to be basketball royalty. Buckle up, L.A. – this season promises to be one for the ages!
