Expect the Unexpected – Lead by Example

Every now and then you purchase tickets to a show or an event, without really knowing what to expect.

This is what we did. We did get the tickets with a certain idea in mind, a preconceived notion based on the posters; yet in all reality, we were not able to imagine what this may look like. This probably happens to quite a few people, especially if the event was not even on your radar and the tickets may have been a gift.

The question at hand then is: can you still be open-minded even when you have created certain ideas in your head or – in some instances – have gotten yourself ready to weather whatever this event was going to look like.

To make this very long story shorter, let me share with you that I had the pleasure of attending an event where the setup was about like that and – always ready to be positive and positively surprised – this show turned out to be completely different and mostly, completely mind-blowing. Now mind you, we had gone with special tickets and to give back to the performers – yes, this was during the pandemic – we were determined to spend extra money so that there would be an income guaranteed after months and weeks for the performers without being able to share their talent or have an income. And yes, in this instance, the added bonus for us was that there is a non-profit attached that we deeply care about. And yes, my daughter was very ecstatic about us spending more money than normal – she loves the hoodie!!

The surprise was all-around, in particular with one person in our party who normally is not for this type of event: this type being an event with horses. Yes: horses! Now you can probably see our imagination going wild in preparation for this show. Yet, this was different and is different from anything I could have imagined or anticipated, and no, I really had no idea what to expect. The third person in our party was as impressed as my daughter and I – and we love horses. Having done my research prior to the show I already knew that my animal wellbeing worry was out of place. Yet, seeing the horses and their partners interact easily brushed away any further potential doubt; even though I had talked with Johnathan Mock-O-Hara on the air about this in one of my shows in November 2021.

As I mentioned in my article of December 19, 2021, due to the pandemic the arena could not be filled. There were empty seats, much to my dislike as I am always for supporting performers who put their heart and soul into their craft. Indeed, I did feel bad initially. Only initially though. Once the lights went dim the arena was electrifying. Everyone in the audience seemed to feel the same way and we all wanted to make sure the performers – horse and human – knew we were there. We all joined the standing ovations, got engaged in the mystery, the beauty, the skill, the art….It was truly mesmerizing – check out some of the details on how precise the preparations (including bringing the sand) were in the December article.

The show itself was an event, mythical storytelling done in complete perfection with an eye on every little detail and bringing the story together in unforgettable ways. You see, if you anticipate the circus or a “wild west” show – don’t hold your breath. This is mythical storytelling at its best. The focus is on human values, such as purpose, integrity, friendship, and more.

All this is also what Cavalluna DOES every day. In the interview, this past November Johannes Mock-O’Hara mentioned that the company came together to support its performers throughout the pandemic lockdown as there was clearly no income. And the performers are a wonderful mix of cultures and ethnicities that all come together for the same cause: show the partnership between animal and human WITH a message. Cavalluna has the helping arm and it ranges from supporting a Riding Therapy Center that was suffering during the pandemic, to food for animal rescue places, and now: supporting people in Ukraine. Clearly, this organization is walking the talk and that is something we cannot say for every organization.

Cavalluna simply provides a one-of-a-kind event. Expect the unexpected at every turn. We cannot wait for the next show to come to us – or we may go to their arena in Munich. Cavalluna is also an organization that not only consists of experienced leaders and experts but leads in the way they care and show they care. Supporting an organization like this and learning from their many humanitarian activities seems a beacon of light in today’s world.

Even though they are not currently traveling or performing in the US, I highly recommend that you look at the art, the skill, and the philanthropic approach to life and business. With that said, I don’t know what to expect with the next show, what to expect they will do tomorrow to share their light, or how they will come up with something else groundbreaking and innovative.

Stay tuned – it is a one-of-a-kind experience.
